Although Marg has now passed her beautiful designs, wealth of knowledge and love of embroidery will live on in her beautiful designs. We acknowledge the commitment Marg made in using our threads in so much of her work, bringing them to life in each depiction of the natural, vibrant plant world. One final thank you Marg. You will always be missed.

'Margaret continues her exciting exploration of art, architecture and embroidery from around the world with twelve beautiful projects that enchant with captivating combinations of colour and stitch. Ivy by Margaret Light
Trailing stems of ivy with flowers and berries surround a
hand-quilted circlet within a square design. Exclusively uses

Sweet Strawberry by Victoria Laine
A colourful strawberry motif and background
in counted thread embroidery uses Gumnut Yarns
stranded silk 'STARS' with metal thread highlights.

Fragments by Anna Scott
Jacobean-style flower and buds in vibrant reds and blues adorn
a small, pleated pillow top. Exclusively uses Gumnut Yarns
fine wool 'DAISIES'. Kits for matching Needlebook and
Scissor Case available through Anna.
Nodding Greenhood by Alison Cole
An Australian bushland scene brought to life with a
stumpwork study of native orchids on a wooden
base features a Gumnut Yarns stranded silk
'STARS'. Kit available through Alison.

INSPIRATIONS

No. 121

Hellebore by Margaret Light, characterises the 19th century Arts and Crafts Movement. Worked using Gumnut Yarns perlé silk 'BUDS' 'onto ivory linen twill, the natural forms of the flowers, leaves and buds are held on gracefully curving stems.

MAREE TALBOT



Embroidered Bookbinding

Elizabethan Lion Panel - Maree's love of animal
and plant embroideries from the Elizabethan period
inspired her to create this panel stitched in
Gumnut Yarns stranded silk 'STARS'.
Hare & Strawberries - is a typical Elizabethan design
with a hare surrounded by strawberries.
Worked in detached buttonhole stitch and stitched
using Gumnut Yarns stranded silk 'STARS'
Tree of Life is the central feature of Maree's Elizabethan Casket lid and is surrounded by an abundance
of small animals, flowers and plants. 'Inside the lid' panel shows a more formal Tree of Life
and both are stitched in Gumnut Yarns stranded silk 'STARS' on a linen background.
Elizabethan Knot Garden Gumnut Yarns
stranded silk 'STARS' are used to create this
design or completed box.
Elizabethan Sweet Bag may be an introduction
to Maree's intricate Elizabethan Casket, using
Gumnut Yarns stranded silk 'STARS'.
 
Peacock Splendour - is a typical Elizabethan design featuring a peacock surrounded by coiling stems of gold,
enclosing flowers, insects and small creatures. Stitched using Gumnut Yarns stranded silk 'STARS'
on a linen background, it is the Elizabethan Casket's 'piece de resistance'.
 
Fantasy 1 - featuring a bird under
a fruiting tree of grapes and lily stitched in
Gumnut Yarns
stranded silk 'STARS' is
the first panel on the Casket.
Elizabethan Monogram features a Tudor
rose stitched in Gumnut Yarns stranded
silk 'STARS' embellished with gold and
pearls on a linen background.
Fantasy 2 - another Elizabethan Casket panel,
features a hare under a fruiting tree of
strawberries and lily stitched in
Gumnut Yarns stranded silk 'STARS'.
 
Elizabethan Casket is Maree's signature
piece, consisting of separately worked panels on a linen background primarily using Gumnut Yarns stranded silk 'STARS'.
Elizabethan Needlework Accessories -
use traditional stitches to create miniatures for your sewing box or friends using Gumnut Yarns stranded silk STARS'.
Elizabethan Animals - worked in
detached buttonhole stitch. Gumnut Yarns
stranded silk 'STARS' are used to produce
three dimensional, life-like animals.

ALISON COLE

 
Posy of Violets features the state emblem of Illinois
and also of New Jersey, Rhode Island and Wisconsin.
The fully three-dimensional soft sculpture is stitched in
Gumnut Yarns stranded silk 'STARS' and tied with ribbon.
Blue Diamond Rose is worked in Gumnut Yarns
stranded silk 'STARS' and metal threads.
This little design fits on the lid of the ivory treasure box.

Memories of Central Park is Alison's latest design using Gumnut Yarns.
Stitched in our stranded silk 'STARS' it's a reminder of the beauty of flowers around us.

 
Branching Out features a Canadian Maple being visited
by a Canadian Question Mark Butterfly and uses threads
including Gumnut Yarns stranded silk 'STARS'.
Bush Christmas is Alison's 2019 Holiday Ornament.
Worked using threads including Gumnut Yarns stranded
silk 'STARS' on a printed background of eucalyptus leaves.
 
Hawthorn and Hummingbird Moth shows this
moth sourcing nectar from Hawthorn flowers.
Stitched in many silks, including
Gumnut Yarns stranded silk 'STARS'.
Rambling Clematis is worked in
Gumnut Yarns stranded silk 'STARS'
and English Goldwork threads on a
background of black delustered satin.

 

 
State of Splendour features many
floral emblems of the United States.
Worked in a range of silks including
Gumnut Yarns stranded silk 'STARS'
Pacific Dogwood features the provincial flower
for British Columbia worked in stumpwork with goldwork highlights with a range of threads
including Gumnut Yarns stranded silk 'STARS'.
Jacobean Splendour features a
pomegranate and Jacobean style flowers
worked in English Goldwork threads and
Gumnut Yarns stranded silk 'STARS.

Pink Robins - thread painted, the wrens
have a raised appearance and are
embroidered using mainly Gumnut Yarns
stranded silk 'STARS' and perlé silk 'BUDS'.
Storm over Uluru is a textile embroidery
using layered fabric and Gumnut Yarns stranded silk
'STARS' and perlé silk 'BUDS'
create perspective and atmosphere.

The Blue Wren Family is stitched onto linen blend fabric, using mainly Gumnuts Yarns stranded silk 'STARS' and perlé silk 'BUDS'
Gwendoline Alexandrou Iris stitched using Gumnut Yarns fine wool 'DAISIES' on a dark fabric is even more beautiful than real life.
A Garland of Spring is created using a wide array of stitches and threads including Gumnut Yarns

are intended to create a visual feast.
Butterfly girl hypercompe scribonia is
one of Taetia's most famous and popular
replicating the actual markings using
Gumnut Yarns stranded silk 'STARS'.

Jaipur Elephant exclusively using Gumnut Yarns stranded silk 'STARS' it resembles the
intricacies of Mehndi skin designs traditionally worked on the hands of Indian women.
Song of Spring, created with Gumnut Yarns stranded silk "STARS' and perlé silk 'BUDS'
depicts a mother bird with nest amidst
beautiful pastel spring flowers.

MARGARET LIGHT

Redwork Barrel Pincushion and Chatelaine
depicts the scrolling floral designs of the 17th/18th centuries stitched monochromatically
using four Gumnut Yarns ranges.
Summer Strawberries Bag is stitched with
Gumnut Yarns fine wool 'DAISIES' and includes
a mixture of basic outline and filling stitches.
Still Life with Loquats features a temple jar
with bowl of loquats and cricket in the foreground.
Stitched using Gumnut Yarns.
Margaret has designed a Delft Tile in her
series reproducing glazed earthenware tiles
first produced in Delft, Holland in
the 16th and 17th centuries.
Briar Rose exclusively Gumnut Yarns
fine wool 'DAISIES' using the stitches
employed by the Deerfield society.
Margaret's Polychrome Delft Tile incorporates
similar stitches. Although most associate
blue and white with these tiles,
many were polychromatic featuring red,
yellow and green tones.
Field of Flowers Still Life exclusively worked in Gumnut Yarns fine wool 'DAISIES', features
a two handled vase, foliage and flowers
intones of blue on off white linen twill.
Camera/I pad Pouch exclusively stitched with
Gumnut Yarns fine wool 'DAISIES' using
stitches employed by the Deerfield society.
Pomegranate Still Life worked exclusively in Gumnut Yarns stranded silk 'STARS',
fine wool 'DAISIES' and silk/wool 'POPPIES'

Marbles
Shooters and Pee Wees

This design is made up of circles in two different sizes.
Each circle is stitched with a different stitch pattern but in the same three colours.
The circles are your marbles -- shooters for the large ones and peewees for the small ones.
Stitched using Gumnut Yarns perlé silk 'BUDS'.

Under and Over The design is made up of overlapping squares, or partial squares,
that alternate going over and under each other.

A flower design that has petals stitched in a pattern that is rotated
around the flower center so that the pattern becomes a mirror image
